Instead of using traditional plant markers for their newly planted fruit garden, a family friend of mine wanted the fruits (skin and cross-section) illustrated and labeled on rocks. They commissioned me for the project!
Each rock was about one square foot and demanded several coats of paint due to their porous and rough nature. When I ran out of fruit to paint, a roadrunner, quail, & hummingbirds were added to the mix. In the end, there were 29 fruit rocks, and 3 animal rocks. All illustration and lettering was free-handed with acrylic craft paint and sealed with a high quality, long lasting, outdoor stone sealer.
I had such a blast making these and it’s so cool to know they’ll be part of the family for years to come. I can’t wait to try some of the fruit!
